Puck:

Puck who is also known has Robin Goodfellow is the character that ties all the plots together and makes it one story. Puck is a mischievous, quick witted character who likes to play practical jokes on the village. Puck also likes to use magic such as when he turns Nick Bottom’s head into a donkey. Puck is Oberon's servant, and carries out many orders such as finding the Love Flower and places the love potion into the Athenian men’s eyes as well as Titania's. Even though puck can be cheeky and naughty he obeys orders very well and in the end is the one who resolves all the confusion.

Titania is the Queen of Fairy Kingdom and is married to Oberon who is the King of Fairy Kingdom. Titania has passionate love for the Indian Prince and feels a sense of duty to him. We can see this when there is the tension between her and Oberon. "And for her sake I will not part with him." (2.1.112). Titania is also a jealous character because Oberon is in love with Hippolyta the Queen of the Amazon. "Come from the farthest step of India?/ But that, forsooth, the bouncing Amazon" (2.1.55-56). Titania uses sophisticated language which is indicative of her status as a queen.

Oberon:

Oberon is the King of Fairy Kingdom and is married to Titania. Tension between Oberon and Titania occurs throughout the play as they are fighting over the Indian Prince. Oberon wants to make the Indian Prince his own so that the he can become and knight. Oberon has a lot of power and control. Oberon has a servant named Puck and together they are the ones that causes confusion by using the love potions and magic.

Theseus is the Duke of Athens and will be getting married to Hippolyta the Queen of Amazons. Theseus makes a ruling on the disagreement between Hermia, Egeus, Lysander and Demetrius. "Either to die the death or to abjure" (1.1.65). He attempts to enforce the strict laws of the patriarchal society. "Be advised fair maid. To you your father should be as a god." (1.1.46-47). Theseus use very forceful language, which shows us his power and is a high ranked character.

Egeus is the father of Hermia. He expects her to abide by his wishes to marry Demetrius. Egeus follows the strict patriarchal society which is shown through the line "As she is mine, i may dispose of her" (1.1.43).

Hermia:

Hermia is the daughter of Egeus, she is an Athenian girl. Helena is Hermia's best friend and have been since they were children. Hermia is in love with Lysander and they are both truly in love. According to her father, she is meant to marry Demetrius and she does not want to marry him. As a result of Pucks mistakes with the Love Potion, Lysander and Demetrius fall in love with Helena, she is very self-conscious about her short figure. Once all the confusion is fixed Lysander and Hermia are utterly in love again and at the end get married.  Hermia is very determined and stubborn this is shown through the quote,  "I would my father looked but with my eyes" (1.1.56). Demetrius loves Hermia but Hermia does not reciprocate his love.

Lysander:

Lysander is a young man of Athens. Lysander shows real affection towards Hermia. Lysander and Demetrius are rivals who are fighting for the love of Hermia. Lysander is a sarcastic and cheeky character, this is shown when he snaps at Demetrius. "You have her father’s love, Demetrius. Let me have Hermia's/Do you marry him" The main reason why Egeus objects to Lysander marrying Hermia is because Lysander is of a lower social position. Lysander and Hermia decide to elope to the woods. Lysander becomes a victim to the Love Potion and awakes to find that he is madly in love with Helena. Once everything is resolved Lysander and Hermia wed.

And Demetrius / The more you beat me, I will fawn on you/Use me but as your spaniel  - spurn me / strike me, neglect me lose me. Only give leave" (2.1.188-191).
